Never underestimate the power of a good blog.
They're the solid foundation that underpins most content strategies and stakes your thought leadership claim on the internet. No matter who you are or what you do, if you want to add value to your audience, you need a blog.
I write useful, well-researched and SEO'd blog posts, usually (but not always!) for the health & wellness and hobby niches.
Equinavia
Helped an industry-leading equine apparel manufacturer capture organic SEO traffic while providing readers with tons of useful information on how to choose, use and fit equestrian equipment.
One of my first freelance writing clients, writing about my favourite animals & hobby always brings me tremendous joy.
My multi-year tenure at Equinavia has allowed me to brach out into new genres, like self improvement and time management (see 8 Tips to Balance School and Riding), health writing (like 'How to Keep Your Horse Healthy at a Show')
and embrace different writing formats, like listicles (see 49 Ways to Save Money Owning a Horse, '11 Ways to Beat Boredom with Your Horse This Winter' or 'The Ultimate Fall Horse Care Checklist', gift guides (see 'Ultimate 2022 Gift Guide for Your Horse' or my 'Ultimate Equestrian Gift Guide'), complete guides (like 'The Complete Guide for Riding a Half Halt'), loads of How-To articles (try 'How to Walk a Show Jumping Course', 'How to Get Into Show Jumping' or 'How to Care for Horse Tack Year Round', comparison articles (check out 'Breeches or Tights: Which is Right For Me?' to see what I mean), and product showcase posts that are actually helpful (Don't believe me? Check out my '11 Horse Shipping Supplies You Should Have Right Now', 'Winter Riding Gloves: 2022 Buyer's Guide'), or 'Absolutely Everything You Should Know About Fleece Horse Blankets') I love finding new way to add value to blog posts, like this popular 'Ultimate Hunter/Jumper Show Checklist' downloadable .pdf that accompanied an already in-depth article on getting ready for horse show season.

Horse Canada
Yeah, I love writing about horses, in case you didn't notice (although I enjoy tackling self-improvement, health and wellness topics too). But you need more than just love - research and interview skills are important, too.
Working with Horse Publications Group (they produce some of Canada's most prestigious equine periodicals, like Horse Sport, Horse Canada and Canadian Thoroughbred), I've had the opportunity to hone my research and interviewing skills, including interviewing everyone from preeminent veterinary researchers and professors, to legal research and the Solicitor General's office.
Check out my article about the growing concern of Antibiotic Resistance in Horses, or my forthcoming piece on the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act - the strongest piece of animal abuse & neglect legislation in Canada.
